Jimmy Griffin

At a glance...

 

Born:  August 10, 1942 in Cincinnati, OH

Spent his childhood in Memphis, TN

Attended Kingsbury High School

One of the three founding members of Bread (with Robb Royer and David Gates)

Won the Academy Award in 1970 for the song "For All We Know" - although popularized by The Carpenters, this song was from the film "Lovers and Other Strangers" - he won this with his long-time collaborator (and fellow founding member) Robb Royer - however, they used the pseudonyms Arthur James and Robb Williams (Arthur was Jimmy's middle name) - Fred Karlin was also a recipient of the award for the music - Jimmy and Robb wrote the words.

Apart from Bread, he recorded three solo albums, an album with Terry Sylvester, one album with Black Tie (with Billy Swan and Randy Meisner), two albums with his band The Remingtons and a final unreleased album "GYG" (Griffin/Yancey/Guilbeau).
